Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes with PSI index gaining 0.57% led by CTT

Lisbon, May 26, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed higher on Monday, with the PSI index up 0.57% to 7,372.78 points, with CTT shares leading the gains, rising 2.51%.

Of the 15 companies listed on the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index), 10 rose and five fell, with Corticeira Amorim losing 5.09% to €7.83.

Among the listed companies that closed with gains, in addition to CTT, whose shares closed at €7.36, were BCP, which rose 1.63% to €0.67, REN, which gained 1.57% to €2.92, and retailer Jerónimo Martins, which rose 1.01% to €22.10.

With increases of less than 1% were EDP Renováveis (€8.72), NOS (€3.84) and Sonae SGPS (€1.26), Semapa (€18.00), Navigator (€3.53) and EDP (€3.51).

Before the market opened, EDP announced, through its subsidiary in Brazil, an agreement to sell the 20% it still holds in the Pecém coal-fired power plant in Brazil to Diamante Geração de Energia Ltda for €30.9 million.

After the market closed, Sonae announced an agreement to sell the MO and Zippy fashion brands to the current management team, with the group led by Cláudia Azevedo receiving €20 million.

Among listed companies that closed in the red, Altri fell 2.83% to €5.50, still penalised by its first quarter results, released on Thursday, which pointed to a year-on-year drop in profits of 64.7% to €7.6 million.

Mota-Engil shares, meanwhile, lost 0.76% to €4.71 on the day it was announced that the construction company had signed a new contract in Brazil with Petrobras for maintenance, construction and assembly services on offshore oil platforms worth around €250 million.

Ibersol also suffered losses, falling 0.21% to €9.48, and Galp fell 0.15% to €13.70.

In the main European markets, the trend at closing was mostly green, with Frankfurt gaining 1.68%, Paris 1.21% and Madrid 0.83%. The London market was closed for the bank holiday.
