Lisbon, May 23, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed lower on Friday, with the PSI index falling 0.61% to 7,330.90 points, with Altri standing out, down 8.86%.
Of the 15 companies listed on the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index), 11 fell, three rose and REN remained unchanged at €2.88.
Leading the declines was Altri, which fell 8.86% to €5.66.
Altri posted a profit of €7.6 million in the first three months of the year, down 64.7% on the same period last year, it announced to the market on Thursday.
Among the main declines were Navigator, which fell 3.46% to €3.52, Semapa, which fell 2.71% to €17.92, Sonae SGPS, down 1.73% to €1.25, Ibersol, which fell 1.45% to €9.50, CTT, with a drop of 1.24% to €7.18, Corticeira Amorim, which fell 1.20% to €8.25, and Mota-Engil, which fell 1.17% to €4.75.
Navigator confirmed today that 125 staff will leave by the end of the year, but rejected accusations that it had pressured workers to terminate their contracts, assuring that the departures were the result of a voluntary programme.
Last week, the Setúbal Union of Trade Unions of the CGTP-IN union federation had reported that Navigator was pressuring 54 workers to leave the factories in Setúbal and Figueira da Foz.
Galp (€13.72), NOS (€3.81) and Jerónimo Martins (€21.88) saw falls of less than 1%.
At the other end of the scale, BCP led the gains, rising 1.13% to €0.66.
Gains of less than 1% were seen in EDP Renováveis (€8.63), followed by EDP (€3.50).
In the rest of Europe, Frankfurt fell 1.54%, Paris 1.65%, Madrid 1.18% and London 0.24%.
Markets have been down today after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 50% tariffs on the European Union (EU).
The US President said today that trade negotiations with the EU “are not working” and recommended imposing a 50% tariff on its products from 1 June.
"Our negotiations with them are not working! Therefore, I am recommending a direct 50% tariff on the European Union starting 1 June 2025," Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social profile, adding that "no tariff will be applied if the product is manufactured in the United States."
