Lisbon, May 2, 2025 (Lusa) - The year-on-year inflation rate rose to 2.1% in April, 0.2 percentage points more than in the previous month, according to the flash estimate released by Statistics Portugal (INE) on Friday.
The underlying inflation indicator, which excludes products with more volatile prices, such as unprocessed food and energy, also recorded a variation of 2.1% in April, compared to 1.9% in the previous month.
In turn, the change in the index for energy products fell to -0.1% (0.1% in March 2025) while the change in the index for unprocessed food increased to 3.3% (2.8% in the previous month).
The change in the CPI compared to the previous month was 0.7%, compared to 1.4% in March and 0.5% in April 2024.
INE estimates an average change in the index of 2.4 % over the last 12 months, the same as the previous month.
The Portuguese Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), an indicator that allows comparison with other European countries, is estimated to have registered a year-on-year change of 2.1% in April, compared to 1.9% in the previous month.
INE will release the final CPI figures for April 2025 on 13 May.
