Óbidos, Portugal, April 24, 2025 (Lusa) - The third edition of Óbidos Vila Gaming will take place between 7 and 11 May, attracting national and international experts in the fields of robotic programming, artificial intelligence and technological innovation.
In this edition, "the event will be even more dedicated to the education sector and the training of new generations", said the Óbidos Town Hall, in the district of Leiria, highlighting the "Game Dev Sessions", which will bring leading figures in the field of video games to the town to take part in talks and workshops.
The programme includes areas dedicated to retrogaming, virtual reality, video games, eSports, cosplay and dance games, among other proposals.
"There will be 50 hours of events, 16 activities to get to know, more than 300 pieces of equipment available, around 50 hours of talks and workshops with around 35 specialists, attended by some of the most important influencers from the gaming community," said the local authority.
The sessions, in what the organisation considers to be "one of the biggest gatherings of creators, studios and emerging talent in the sector in Portugal", will this year be attended by Jessica Monteiro, from Pixar, Patrice Leymarie, from IAMAG, and Christopher Hamilton, from the International Game Developers Association (IGDA).
The talks and workshops will cover "very diverse areas, such as animation, VFX, art direction, character design and game production", said the municipality, also emphasising the participation of Rui Romano, Ricardo Flores, Diogo Rato and João Sousa, among other guests.
The programme includes themed sessions on 2D and 3D Art, Game Design, Animation and Visual Effects (VFX), Development, Product, Research, and Technical Demonstration, as well as networking and informal hangouts.
The event also promotes informal socialising and sharing, with Welcome Coffee sessions, community lunches, or Happy Hours, and counts on the participation of the Association of Portuguese Video Game Producers.
The talks sessions will take place in the Praça da Criatividade, next to the town of Óbidos. In contrast, the specialised workshops and masterclasses will take place in the Óbidos Technology Park, both with activities throughout the four days.
The Game Dev Sessions will end on 10 May with a closing ceremony, where new initiatives and strategic collaborations for the sector will be announced.
Admission to the event is free.
