TIRANA, April 13 /ATA/ The "Skampa" Theatre in Elbasan successfully launched the premiere of the comedy "What the Butler Saw," a play by British author Joe Orton, skillfully directed by Kiço Londo.
Art lovers in Elbasan enthusiastically attended a performance that skillfully combines absurd humor with the startling truths of human relationships.
The stage was graced by well-known names from Albanian theatre, including Helidon Fino, Egla Ceno, Linda Jarani, Mario Elezi, Ëngjell Hoxha, and Livjon Aliaj, who, with their brilliant performances, brought to life the complex characters of Orton.
They bring to life a gallery of characters who fluctuate between madness, desire, and absurdity, making the audience laugh, think, and reflect.
A hotel worker caught up in the schemes of a psychiatrist with unusual tendencies, a secretary exposed and concealed behind a curtain, a sophisticated woman lost in alcohol, illicit embraces, and a professor with surreal fantasies—all collide with the arrival of a police officer who turns everything upside down... Meanwhile, the dense haze of Churchill’s cigars intensifies the absurdity of the unfolding events.
This premiere serves as yet another testament to the vibrant artistic scene in Elbasan, nurtured with commitment by Kliton Kapaj, the artistic director of the "Skampa" Theatre.
Thanks to his work and the efforts of the actors and directors, the "Skampa" Theatre remains a cultural landmark in the city and beyond. "What the Butler Saw" will be staged at "Skampa" until May 16.
