Lisbon, March 28, 2025 (Lusa) - Young workers from various parts of the country gathered in Lisbon's Praça da Figueira on Friday and marched towards parliament to demand pay rises, shorter working hours and an end to precarious work.
Interjovem, the CGTP's young workers' organisation, called the national demonstration under the slogan "For your salary, for your career, for a dignified life" to mark National Youth Day, which is being celebrated today.
At the demonstration, which kicked off at 3.15 p.m. and was attended by Tiago Oliveira, CGTP general secretary, and Gonçalo Paixão, Interjovem coordinator, the young workers chanted slogans such as "it's fair, urgent and necessary to increase wages", "the cost of living is rising, young people can't take it", "precariousness in Portugal is a national disgrace", "so many young people working without a house to live in" or "with or without IMI there's no house for me".
They also held up placards with messages of struggle such as "decent wages for all", "no home to live in" or "being effective is what I demand".
