The German market is expected to continue its upward trend in 2025, a press release by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism said here on Thursday evening. In statements, Deputy Minister Costas Koumis said that Cyprus' air connectivity with Germany has improved, with flights from ten different cities, and the increase in seats offered by 9% compared to the previous year, without including charter flights in this percentage, set the conditions for another good tourist year in relation to the German market.
The Ministry says that Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis headed a Cypriot delegation at the ITB Berlin tourism fair and that he held a series of contacts with the heads of tourism organisations that specialise in or operate in the German market. In addition, he met with executives of airline companies, as well as with tourism organisations that operate in other important markets.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta, Ian Borg, as well as with Permanent Secretary of the Israeli Ministry of Tourism, Dani Shahar, with whom he discussed the current challenges of tourism in the Mediterranean region.
The press release says that the German market is expected to show an upward trend in 2025 as well, since a significant increase in the number of airline seats offered has been achieved.
The Deputy Ministry of Tourism also held meetings with tourism organisations with the aim of organising events or specialized tourism programs in Cyprus. It is added that it is expected that the meetings of the Austrian pensioners' associations will take place in Cyprus in 2026 and 2027.
It is noted that the Cyprus pavilion at the expo was upgraded this year and along with the Deputy Ministry, more than 50 co-exhibitors took part in the exhibition, mainly hoteliers, travel agents, professional associations and others.
The Deputy Minister said that the German market's share in 2024 amounted to 5.7%, or 228,000 tourists.
Koumis welcomed the fact that tourism partners are pleased with the level of service, hospitality and the quality of the infrastructure, in Cyprus. He also said that Cyprus' air connectivity with Germany has improved, with flights from ten different cities, and the increase in seats offered by 9% compared to the previous year, without including charter flights in this percentage. This, he pointed out, sets the conditions for another good tourist year in relation to the German market.
"We are therefore optimistic" he said, adding that both the state and the private sector must now ensure that the level of hospitality will be high.
