Lisbon, Jan. 17, 2024 (Lusa) - Volkswagen Autoeuropa, in Palmela, south of Lisbon, produced 236,100 vehicles in 2024, the best year since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, it announced on Friday.
"Despite several shutdowns to modernise the plant, 2024 was the second best year for production at the Palmela plant, with 236,100 cars produced," the company said in a statement.
The year in which the most cars were produced at the Palmela plant was 2019, with 254,600 vehicles.
The plant started 2025 with the production of the first vehicle of the year, a T-Roc R-Line, a model destined for the German market, the main destination for exports.
The managing director, Thomas Hegel Gunther, emphasised that the completion of the first car of 2025 "marks the start of a new production cycle and is a declaration that the plant is ready to continue delivering good results".
Almost all (99%) of Volkswagen Autoeuropa's production is exported, its main markets being Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
