Lusa - Business News - Cabo Verde: Tourist numbers higher in Q3 YoY - official figures

Praia, Jan. 3, 2025 (Lusa) - Cabo Verde received 6.7% more visitors and had 6.1% more overnight stays in the third quarter of 2024, compared to the same period the year before, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Friday.

In the third quarter of 2024, Cabo Verde's hotel establishments registered 247,093 guests, who totalled 1,395,397 overnight stays, which "represents an increase of 6.7% in the number of visitors and 6.1% in overnight stays, compared to the same period in 2023," according to INE.

This growth reflects the continued recovery of Cabo Verde's tourism sector.

Hotels continued to be the most popular option, accounting for 81.6% of arrivals and 85.8% of overnight stays.

In terms of geographical distribution, the island of Sal continues to be the most sought after by tourists, with 60.3%, followed by the island of Boa Vista, with 24.3%.

Santiago received 8.5% of the guests, while São Vicente had 3.4%.

The remaining islands accounted for 3.5% of total arrivals.

The United Kingdom remained the main source market, with 31.8% of arrivals, followed by Portugal (13.2%) and the Netherlands (7.6%).

INE saud that the growth trend in the tourism sector should continue to boost Cabo Verde's economy.

Hotels beat the record of one million guests in 2023 and the government has brought forward to 2024 the target of 1.2 million tourists, previously set for 2026.
