Lisbon, Dec. 19, 2024 (Lusa) - A decree-law that increases the minimum wage to €870 in 2025 was published in the Diário da República on Thursday.
"This decree-law determines an increase in the value of the minimum monthly wage to €870.00, with effect from 1 January 2025," according to the decree published today in the Diário da República.
In the agreement on wage rises and economic growth for 2025-2028 signed with the business confederations and the UGT, the government revised the trajectory of the national minimum wage upwards, determining increases of €50 per year until 2028.
As a result, the minimum monthly wage will rise to €870 by 2025, an increase of 6.1% compared to the current €820 and €15 more than the amount provided for in the previous income agreement (€855).
"This pay rise is one of the elements contributing to retaining talent and qualified human capital in Portugal and, in this way, strengthening the productivity and competitiveness of the economy, putting it on a par with other European partners," the government argues in the statute published today in Diário da República.
The agreement allows the minimum wage to rise to €920 in 2026, to €970 in 2027 and to reach €1,020 in 2028.
