Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lisbon stocks trading lower; index down 0.4% as Mota-Engil falls 2.4%

Lisbon, Dec. 10, 2024 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market maintained its opening trend on Tuesday morning and was trading lower, with 12 of the constituent shares in the benchmark PSI index down, led by those of Mota-Engil, which fell 2.40% to €2.60.

At around 9.30 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI was down 0.43% to 6,326.97 points, with 12 shares falling, two rising (CTT, up 0.44% to €4.57, and Galp, up 0.06% to €16.73) and one maintaining its price (NOS at €3.40).       

Mota-Engil's shares were followed down by BCP, EDP and EDP Renováveis, which fell 1.14% to €0.43, 1.02% to €3.19 and 0.97% to €10.16. Corticeira Amorim, Navigator and Sonae shares fell 0.72% to €8.28, 0.47% to €3.42 and 0.43% to €0.92.

In the same direction, Jerónimo Martins, Semapa and Ibersol shares fell 0.43% to €18.59, 0.29% to €13.70 and 0.27% to €7.46. The other two shares to fall were REN and Altri, down 0.21% to €2.36 and 0.19% to €5.15. 

Major European stock markets were trading lower on Tuesday morning, on a day centred on the final inflation figure for November in Germany, which confirmed that inflation had accelerated to 2.2%, compared to 2.0% in October.   

Wall Street closed in the red on Monday, amid some nervousness about the next US inflation figures, which will be released on Wednesday.

In the commodities markets, gold is stable, up 0.01%, with the price per ounce at $2,686, while oil is down.

A barrel of Brent crude oil for delivery in February 2025 is down, at $71.94 on London's Intercontinental Exchange Futures (ICE), compared to $72.14 on Monday. West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the US benchmark, is also down 0.38% to $68.11 before the market officially opens.

Bitcoin, the most widely used cryptocurrency on the market, is up 0.22% to $97,222. 

In the debt market, the interest rate on the 10-year German government bond, considered Europe's benchmark, rose to 2.140%, compared to 2.120% in the previous session. 

The euro opened weaker on the Frankfurt exchange, at $1.0542, against $1.0567 on Monday and $1.0418 on 22 November, which was its lowest level since 1 December 2022.
