Lisbon, Nov. 21, 2024 (Lusa) - Google on Thursday announced the expansion of its Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) personal assistant for Google Workspace into Portuguese, along with six other languages, allowing it to update the Gmail inbox and other facilities in this language.
In this way, users can ask Gemini to show unread emails and manage their replies in Portuguese, among other features, help write texts, summarise documents in Drive, create images and tables, among other features.
As of Thursday, languages including Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and English are now supported by Gemini in the side panel of Google Docs, Sheets, Drive and Gmail.
"This expansion makes Gemini for Workspace [Google's productivity tool] increasingly accessible to more than a billion people whose first language is now supported," says the tech company in a blog post.
The feature is available in the side menu of Google Workspace.
‘The ability to work in your preferred language goes beyond summarising and creating content. When you use the Gemini app (gemini.google.com) to research a topic or discuss ideas, you can choose to work in any of the 40 languages,’ it says.
For example, during a video call on Google Meet, you can activate subtitles translated into one of the 69 supported languages, regardless of the language spoken and soon, the blog post adds, "Gemini will also automatically translate messages on Google Chat."
Since October, Gemini Live has also already been able to chat in Portuguese.
