Lisbon, Oct. 24, 2024 (Lusa) - Marco Paulo, one of Portugal's best-known and best-loved singers, died on Thursday at the age of 79, according to a report from the SIC Notícias television news channel, which is part of the same media group where he himself had a weekly show.
Marco Paulo had recently been diagnosed with two cancers, one in one of his lungs and the other in his liver.
In mid-September, he received the news that chemotherapy was not working and that the treatment would be suspended, according to the same source.
João Simão da Silva, known by the stage name of Marco Paulo, was the performer of hits such as ‘Eu tenho dois amores’ (I have two loves) and ‘Maravilhoso coração’ (Marvellous heart). He was born on 21 January 1945 in Mourão, in the district of Évora, before settling with his family in Alenquer, in the district of Lisbon, at the end of the 1950s, and then in Barreiro, on the south bank of the Tagus, in the 1960s.
