Lusa - Business News - Angola: Government coffers get €1B from privatisations since 2019, more to come

Luanda, Sept. 6, 2024 (Lusa) - The Angolan government announced on Friday that 109 state assets valued at 1.05 trillion kwanzas (€1 billion) have already been privatised and that insurance group ENSA, the Angolan stock market and the assets of Standard Bank will be privatised this semester.

Angola's Privatisation Programme (ProPriv), which began in 2019, allowed for the privatisation of 109 Angolan state companies and/or assets, six of which were already privatised in 2024, the spokesman for the Interministerial Commission, Otoniel dos Santos, said today.

Speaking at the end of the commission's fourth meeting, Santos said that of the total amount contracted, 22 billion kwanzas (€21.4 million) were still to be paid and that 1% of these instalments had already passed their payment deadlines.

The Angolan National Insurance Company (ENSA), the Angolan Stock Market (BODIVA) and the Angolan state's holdings in Standard Bank are to be privatised on the stock market by December 2024.

The prospectus for the privatisation of ENSA has already been submitted to the Capital Markets Commission (CMC) for appraisal and approval, with the launch of the offer and the respective settlement on the stock market scheduled for 15 September and the second half of October respectively.

BODIVA will then be privatised, whose provisional registration process has already been submitted to the CMC, with the launch of the offer taking place in the first half of October and its completion or liquidation at the beginning of November, he said.

Otoniel dos Santos, who is also Angola's secretary of state for finance and treasury, also said that the stock market privatisation of the state's shares in Standard Bank should take place between November and December and that the process of adjusting negotiations with the shareholder Standard Bank Group was currently underway to make the process of placing the percentage viable.

ProPriv includes the privatisation of assets in industry, commerce, banking, insurance, telecommunications, aviation, oil, agriculture and other sectors.
