Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Guarda polytechnic incubator to host third US start-up

Guarda, Portugal, Aug. 14, 2024 (Lusa) - In September, the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda's business incubator will host the third American start-up to develop a platform that matches students with job offers worldwide.

"Solo will develop an interactive digital platform in Guarda that will match the accredited skills of students and workers from all over the world with the professional profiles that are being sought at any given time by companies and institutions in the global market," the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (IPG) said in a statement sent to the Lusa news agency.

The Solo start-up, which moves in on 23 September, will be the third technology company with US capital to come to the IPG's Denuclearised Business Incubator this year, after Seed by Seed and AG-Transformer.

IPG president Joaquim Brigas stressed that "the way Solo is developing its platform has the potential to revolutionise how students and workers worldwide can approach their studies and lifelong learning".

He said that the Denuclearised Business Incubator and Solo agreement stipulates that, once the technological devices needed to run the platform have been developed, a pilot project will be implemented at the Polytechnic of Guarda, which will last one academic year.

"Once the testing phase is complete and any necessary adjustments and improvements have been made, the company will then promote the adoption of its platform globally and explore the development and incorporation of new features," the president of IPG said.

Solo will collaborate with researchers and students from the Polytechnic of Guarda at any of these stages.

Joaquim Brigas considered that the way the IPG has designed its denuclearised incubator is "proving to be very suitable for attracting not only ideas with high potential but also highly qualified foreign investment and entrepreneurial talent to this inland region".

"With this tangible contribution to an increasingly significant local entrepreneurial system, the Polytechnic of Guarda is reinforcing its role as an economic and social driver for the entire region," he said.

Solo is a company launched by US investor Sudesh Sangelkar, founder and CEO of SPARK+ Technologies. SPARK+ Technologies offers solutions based on Blockchain technology to the US and Asian markets.
