Luanda, Oct. 9, 2026 (Lusa) - Inflation continued its downward trend in Angola in September, standing at 8.43%, a slight slowdown of 0.36 percentage points compared with the previous month, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Friday.
Compared with the same month in 2025, the National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) recorded a slowdown of 9.73 percentage points in September 2026, falling from 18.16% to 8.43%, according to official statistics.
Inflation in Angola has been in single figures since July 2026, with education costs recording the largest increase in the September 2026 price index, showing a year-on-year rise of 18.53% at the start of another academic year.
According to the INE, «notable increases were also seen in the categories ‘Food and non-alcoholic beverages', up 9.54%; ‘Alcoholic beverages and tobacco' and ‘Health', both up 9.10%; and ‘Housing, water, electricity and fuels', up 9.07%».
The «Food and non-alcoholic beverages» category contributed most to the rise in the general price level, accounting for 5.77 percentage points during September, according to the data released.
The Angolan provinces with the highest changes in the general price level were Cuando Cubango at 11.26%, Lunda Sul at 10.68% and Malanje at 10.51%, according to the report.
The data also reveal that the provinces with the lowest price changes were Cuanza Norte, at 5.65%, Huambo, at 6.19%, and Lunda Norte, at 6.48%.
