Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lisbon Vasco da Gama bridge affected by Sunday half-marathon

Lisbon, Oct. 8, 2026 (Lusa) - Traffic on the Vasco da Gama Bridge, which links the districts of Lisbon and Setúbal, will operate with limited access on Sunday due to the 2026 Half and Mini Marathons, according to the concessionaire Lusoponte.

In a statement, the company responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of the two road bridges over the River Tagus (the Vasco da Gama Bridge and the 25 April Bridge) indicated that traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction between 12:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and that traffic congestion may occur.

Lusoponte emphasises that the bridge will remain open to traffic throughout this period.

«However, traffic congestion may occur in both directions, so Lusoponte recommends that motorists plan their journeys in advance, allow for a possible increase in journey time and check traffic conditions via the cameras available on the company's website,» the statement said.

The Vasco da Gama Bridge connects the two banks of the Tagus between Lisbon and Montijo/Alcochete, in the district of Setúbal.

The Hyundai Half Marathon is scheduled to start at 9:20 a.m. from the Vasco da Gama Bridge, finish at Praça do Comércio in Lisbon, and is expected to attract over 15,000 participants. The Maratona Clube de Portugal organises the event.
