Carlo Borgomeo, the president of Italian airports association Assaeroporti, on Wednesday sounded the alarm about the devastating impact soaring jet-fuel prices could have on the air-transport industry.
"We have no concerns about availability of jet fuel, but we are concerned about the cost," Borgomeo told the assembly of transport federation Federtrasporto, of which he is also vice president.
"Fuel now accounts for 31% of operating costs.
"We hope the situation improves, otherwise we must certainly prepare for price increases and, in some cases, the cancellation of some flights".
