Istat said Friday that retail sales in Italy were up by 0.5% in value in August with respect to the same month in 2025 but down by 1% in volume.
The national statistics agency added that food sales increased in 0.9% in value but decreased 0.4% in volume in year-on-year terms, while did sales of non-food products rose 0.2% in value and fell 1.3% in volume.
The data gives an indication of the impact of high inflation, with people spending more to get less.
Istat said retail sales were up 0.3% in value and 0.5% in volume in August compared to July.
