Praia, Sept. 30, 2026 (Lusa) - Cabo Verde's Gross Domestic Product recorded «a year-on-year increase of 8.9% in real terms in the second quarter», the archipelago's National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced on Wednesday.
This figure is 2.5 percentage points higher than the first quarter's rate of 6.4% and the highest since the first quarter of 2024.
On the production side, the extractive industries and construction recorded the highest growth rates (35.4% and 35.3%, respectively), whilst the accommodation and catering sector and the business services sector recorded growth rates of -8.8% and -3%.
From an expenditure perspective, Cabo Verde's economy showed greater momentum, with investment growing by 56.9% year-on-year.
On foreign trade, exports of goods rose 42.8%, while exports of services rose 4%.
On the other side of the balance of trade, imports of goods rose 24.9%, and imports of services rose 7.9%.
«In the first two quarters of 2026 combined, GDP grew by 7.6% in volume terms, driven primarily by trade and repairs, financial and insurance activities, education, construction and fishing,» concluded the INE.
