Lisbon, Sept. 23, 2026 (Lusa) - Statistics Portugal (INE) has revised economic growth for the second quarter upwards by 0.1 percentage points, both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter, according to data released on Wednesday.
Following this revision, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth now stands at 2.6% year-on-year, whilst the quarter-on-quarter rate of change was 0.9%.
As the INE explains, «on a quarterly basis, there were revisions to the rates of change in real GDP, whilst the temporal pattern of the previously published rates of change remained unchanged».
For the year as a whole, the Government forecasts GDP growth of 2%, according to the latest available projections, set out in the annual progress report sent to Brussels in April.
A highlight on the annual national accounts was also released today, revealing that Portugal's GDP reached €308.5 billion in 2025, representing a 1.9% increase in real terms.
«Compared with the preliminary data, the provisional results for 2025 now reflect, in addition to the direct impacts arising from the compilation of detailed data for 2024, more robust and comprehensive information for the general government sector, the inclusion of revised data on international trade in goods and the balance of payments (services) and, above all, the incorporation of data already available from the Simplified Business Information for 2025», states INE.
