Luanda, Sept. 17, 2026 (Lusa) - Toll charges in Angola are set to rise this Friday, from between 100 (€0.10) and 2,000 kwanzas (€1.9) to 250 (€0.24) and 85,000 (€80.6), with the sharpest increase affecting heavy goods vehicles at the country's borders.

The Angolan government last updated the toll price list in 2019, and it justifies the new prices by the need to preserve and maintain the road network, which comprises around 74,000 kilometres of roads.

Motorists passing through the Barra do Kwanza, Luvo and Nóqui toll stations will notice the increases as early as this Friday, with prices ranging from a minimum of 250 kwanzas (€0.24) for motorbikes to a maximum of 7,000 kwanzas (€6.60) for heavy goods vehicles.

Under the new tariff, the charge at border posts for heavy goods vehicles can reach 85,000 kwanzas, as Ana Cristina da Cosa, chair of the Road and Emergency Works Fund (FROE), explained in an interview with the Angolan press.

She said the charges are intended to fund road repair and maintenance, and the FROE collects the revenue and finances the works.

According to da Cosa, the Angolan government «is concerned about the condition of the roads and has decided to diversify its revenue sources while maintaining a sustainable general state budget».

Tolls in Angola can be paid in cash or by card, and at border crossings the General Tax Administration (AGT) collects the charges.
