Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market trading higher on Thursday morning, led by Ibersol

Lisbon, Sept. 17, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading higher on Thursday morning, with 15 of the 16 stocks in the PSI rising, led by Ibersol, which was up 0.78% to €10.28.

At around 9.25 am in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was up 0.27% at 9,564.72 points, with 15 companies rising and one remaining unchanged (Jerónimo Martins at €17.89).

Ibersol's shares were followed by those of BCP, Mota-Engil and Semapa, which rose by 0.63% to €1.20, 0.57% to €4.95 and 0.48% to €20.80 respectively.

REN, CTT and EDP rose by 0.43% to €3.53, 0.39% to €6.39 and 0.32% to €4.76 respectively.

More moderately, Corticeira Amorim, Navigator and Sonae rose by 0.29% to €7.03, 0.25% to €3.24 and 0.24% to €2.09.

Altri and Galp rose by 0.21% to €4.70 and 0.18% to €21.92 respectively.

The other three shares whose prices were rising were those of Teixeira Duarte (up 0.10% to €0.48), NOS (up 0.09% to €5.41) and EDP Renewables (up 0.08% to €12.55).

Across Europe, the main stock markets opened higher today, following the US Federal Reserve's interest rate hike, whilst the Bank of England is expected to keep rates unchanged today and as the US threatens the Old Continent with heavy tariffs.

The euro was stronger against the dollar, gaining 0.10% and trading at $1.1477 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.

The markets were up, despite US President Donald Trump having threatened to impose heavy tariffs on Europe or even to cease trading directly with the bloc if Canada is appointed an associate member of the European Union (EU).

The US Federal Reserve (Fed) decided on Wednesday to raise interest rates for the first time in more than three years, by a quarter of a point to a range of between 3.75% and 4%, a decision coming six weeks before the US mid-term elections.

In the quarterly report on US economic projections, 16 of the Fed's 18 economists consider at least one further increase before the end of the year to be appropriate, as they believe the key interest rate needs to be above 4% in the coming months.

US index futures are up by 0.82% for the Dow Jones and 0.77% for the Nasdaq, after both closed lower the previous day.

Meanwhile, oil prices are falling, with the price of a standard barrel of Brent crude – the benchmark in Europe – down 1.26% to $104.50.

Today it is the Bank of England's turn, and it will almost certainly keep rates at 3.75%%, whilst on Friday it will be the Bank of Japan's turn, which is expected to raise rates by 0.25% to 1.25%.
