In Europe, the main stock markets opened today without a clear trend, awaiting the decision of the European Central Bank (ECB), which is expected to raise the deposit rate for banks by 25 basis points to 2.5%.
The euro was trading slightly higher against the dollar, up 0.07% at $1.1641 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.
European markets are focusing all their attention today on the ECB's decision, anticipating a 25-basis-point rise in key interest rates to curb inflation in the eurozone, driven mainly by rising energy costs due to the war in Iran.
Assuming that this move has already been priced in by the eurozone's financial markets, the most significant aspect of the meeting will be what the Governing Council and its President, Christine Lagarde, have to say about future interest rate policy.
OPEC is publishing its monthly report on global oil supply and demand today at a time when the price of oil has exceeded $100 per barrel, driven by the escalation of the military conflict between the US and Iran.
Futures for the main US indices point to a 0.34% rise for the Dow Jones and a 0.10% fall for the technology-heavy Nasdaq, after both closed lower the previous day.
This week, investors are also awaiting Friday's release of the US inflation rate for August, which will be a key factor in the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) decision on 16 September.
The Fed's monetary policy meeting is scheduled for 15 and 16 September, and there are doubts as to whether it will keep key interest rates in the 3.50%–3.75% range or raise them.
