Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes higher with Mota-Engil climbing more than 5%

Lisbon, Sept. 8, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed higher on Tuesday, with the PSI index up 0.66% to 9,481.29 points and Mota-Engil gaining more than 5%, while European markets remained neutral.

Of the 16 companies listed in the PSI, 13 rose and three fell.

Mota-Engil led the gains, rising 5.42% to €5.07.

Mota-Engil África has signed a contract worth $207 million (around €178 million) to carry out preparatory works on a project in Afungi, in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, the company announced on Monday.

Other standouts in today's trading session included Teixeira Duarte, which rose 2.19% to €0.49; Galp, which rose 1.79% to €21.09; Jerónimo Martins, which rose 1.71% to €18.42; Ibersol, which rose by 1.50% to €10.14, and EDP, up 1.15% to €4.74.

Rises of less than 1% were seen in BCP (€1.17), Semapa (€20.75), NOS (€4.94), Altri (€4.69), CTT (€6.41), REN (€3.50) and Navigator (€3.23).

At the other end of the scale, EDP Renováveis led the fallers, dropping 1.71% to €13.19.

Sonae SGPS (€2.02) and Corticeira Amorim (€6.98) recorded rises of less than 1%.

Elsewhere in Europe, Madrid fell 0.12%, and London fell 0.10%, while Frankfurt remained unchanged and Paris rose by a further 0.14%.
