Luanda, Sept. 1, 2026 (Lusa) - The management of Angola's flag carrier, TAAG, announced on Tuesday that the strike planned for today has been called off and that negotiations between the company and the trade unions have resumed.

In a statement, TAAG's management stated that, «following meetings held with the trade unions, which had announced a strike for 1 September, the strike notice has been withdrawn».

It added that «negotiations are continuing with a view to reaching a balanced and sustainable solution».

This decision «ensures the normal continuity of operations and allows the negotiation process to continue within the framework of dialogue between the management and staff representatives», TAAG said.

Quoted in the statement, Chairman Clóvis Rosa said «this is the approach that should continue to be prioritised».

«We value the decision to maintain dialogue and to continue negotiations. There are, of course, issues on which positions need to be reconciled, but this work must be carried out responsibly and with the awareness that we are all part of the same company,» he added.

The aim of the negotiations, he explained, «is to find solutions that are balanced for the company's staff and sustainable for the organisation».

TAAG's management stated that it «is also maintaining dialogue with the other bodies representing staff, seeking to ensure that the various labour-related issues are addressed through negotiation, responsibility and the search for consensus».

TAAG's maintenance technicians had announced a one-day strike for this Tuesday over pay adjustments and in protest at what they consider to be unilateral decisions by the company.

The planned action had the potential to affect the operations of the Angolan state-owned airline, which serves 13 domestic and 12 international destinations.
