Lisbon, Aug. 31, 2026 (Lusa) - The PSI, Portugal's main stock market index, remained in positive territory on Monday morning, continuing the trend seen at the open, with Galp leading the gains as Brent crude rose by more than 3%.

At 9:45 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI was up 0.28% to 9,456.90 points, with six stocks in the ‘green', eight in the ‘red' and Altri and Semapa unchanged at €4.70 and €20.70 respectively.

Galp led the gains, with the oil company rising 1.68% to €21.18 as the price of a barrel of Brent crude once again rose above $91.

At the same time, a barrel for November delivery was trading at $91.34, up 3.68% from Friday and compared with $87.94 at the same time in the previous session.

Galp was followed by Jerónimo Martins, which rose by 0.83% to €18.12, and BCP, which rose by 0.62% to €1.13.

Posting more modest gains were EDP (up 0.28% to €4.71); Sonae (up 0.25% to €2.02) and Corticeira Amorim (up 0.14% to €7.08).

Conversely, Mota-Engil recorded the largest decline, falling 1.50% to €4.74, followed by CTT, which fell 0.98% to €6.53.

EDP Renewables fell by 0.43% to €13.37, Navigator by 0.31% to €3.26, NOS by 0.24% to €4.98 and Teixeira Duarte by 0.21% to €0.48.

Ibersol (-0.19% to €10.34) and REN (-0.14% to €3.50) also recorded losses.

Investors are keeping a close eye on the Middle East today, following US strikes on the Iranian island of Larak, to which Iran responded by launching drones against a US base in the United Arab Emirates.

A supertanker also sustained significant damage due to two naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

These factors ultimately drove up the price of a barrel of Brent crude.

Meanwhile, Texas crude (WTI) for October delivery rose by 3.46% to $86.29.
