Maputo, Aug. 28, 2026 (Lusa) - The Maputo International Fair (Facim), Mozambique's largest business event, is set to bring together participants from 30 countries and more than 2,700 exhibitors from Monday onwards for its 61st edition, an official source told Lusa on Friday.
«We expect 30 countries to take part. Of these 30, 28 have already been confirmed,» said Luís Machava, director-general of the Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (Apiex), the body responsible for organising Facim.
According to Machava, the Maputo International Fair, which runs from 31 August to 5 September at the Ricatla International Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre, in the region of Marracuene, Maputo, is expected to bring together around 600 foreign companies, more than 500 of which have already been confirmed, including approximately 2,150 local exhibitors and representatives from all Mozambican provinces.
In addition to national and international exhibitors, the fair will feature an agricultural exhibition and pavilions dedicated to various sectors of the economy and public institutions.
«We will also have the agricultural exhibition and the pavilion for the state-owned business sector, including the pavilion of the Zambezi Valley Development Agency,» he said.
Machava further explained that business forums and themed seminars are also planned throughout the six days of the event, with a particular focus on meetings between Mozambican businesspeople and international partners.
«In addition to the usual exhibitions across the various pavilions, we will also have business forums,» said the Director-General of Apiex, highlighting the Mozambique–China, Mozambique–Brazil – this year's guest of honour – and Mozambique–United Arab Emirates forums, amongst others.
This year's edition is taking place under the theme «Digital and energy transformation for a sustainable economy», an approach which, according to the organisers, will be reflected in the event's management itself: «We are trying to align the fair with this theme, and the focus will be on digital transformation. We hope that this year's Facim will be a fully digital event.» «Access, registrations, bookings, and the scheduling of meetings and appointments – everything is carried out via digital platforms. There is no room for manual intervention,» he added.
Among the countries expected at this edition of Facim is Portugal, which joins the other international delegations scheduled to take part in the event. Also expected to attend, including at the opening ceremony, are the secretary of state for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira, and the President of the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP), Madalena Oliveira e Silva.
Also scheduled to attend on the first day of Facim are the leader of Portugal's Socialist Party, José Luís Carneiro, and the leader of the Socialist parliamentary group, Eurico Brilhante Dias, as part of the party delegation's visit to Maputo.
Every year, Mozambique's largest trade fair showcases the country's economic potential and business and investment opportunities in the domestic and international business sectors, whilst also featuring other activities, including seminars, promotional sessions and networking events.
