Lisbon, Aug. 24, 2026 (Lusa) - The main Portuguese stock market index, the PSI, continued the trend seen at the opening and remained in negative territory, falling by 0.04%, in line with most of Europe.
At 9:35 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI stood at 9,350.74 points, with nine stocks up, five down, and EDP Renováveis and REN holding steady at €13.47 and €3.55 respectively.
Galp recorded the largest decline, falling 1.64% to €21.57, followed by Altri (-0.32% to €4.73), Ibersol (-0.30% to €9.96), Corticeira Amorim (-0.29% to €6.97) and EDP (-0.17% to €4.61).
Conversely, gains were led by Jerónimo Martins, the only stock in the ‘green' by more than 1%, which rose 1.31% to €17.77.
Teixeira Duarte, Semapa and Sonae were the other three with gains of 0.5% or more, rising by 0.94% to €0.48, 0.72% to €20.85 and 0.50% to €2.02 respectively.
Close behind were Mota-Engil (+0.49% to €4.54), Navigator (0.43% to €3.29), CTT (0.31% to €6.43), NOS (0.21% to €4.88) and BCP (0.05% to €1.10).
The PSI's performance is in line with the European trend, where most of the main indices remain in the ‘red', whilst investors await further details on the measures the United States is expected to impose on Iran.
The price of a barrel of Brent crude for October delivery fell by 1.25% to 93.23 dollars.
Investors continue to await the announcement of the economic measures the United States will impose on Iran, in response to which President Donald Trump has promised unprecedented economic restrictions.
In other markets, the price of an ounce of gold rose by 0.91% to $4,644.92, and the price of an ounce of silver increased by 0.13% to $69.08.
Bitcoin rose by 0.3% to $77,630.7, whilst the € was trading at $1.1676.
