Maputo, Au. 24, 2026 (Lusa) - Mozambique plans to asphalt 45 road sections, totalling 3,219 kilometres, as part of the «Mais Estradas 2031» programme, with the National Roads Authority (ANE) launching the tender on Monday to supervise the works.
According to a call for expressions of interest published by the ANE, the consultancy services are intended to supervise the planned asphalting works on roads across the southern, central and northern regions of the country, to be carried out under a design-and-build model.
The sections covered are located in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza, Inhambane, Sofala, Manica, Tete, Zambézia, Nampula, Cabo Delgado and Niassa, including strategic links for the movement of people and goods and for the economic integration of the different regions.
Among the largest sections planned under the programme up to 2031 are the 83-kilometre Chalaua–Moma road in the province of Nampula, the 75-kilometre Mecúfi–Mazeze road in Cabo Delgado, the Lindela–Inhambane/Foce–Cruz N24–Barra–Cruz NS–Cruz N15 link in Inhambane, also 75 kilometres long, the Chitobe–Chibabava road in Manica, 74 kilometres long, and the Sitila–Funhalouro road in Inhambane, 70 kilometres long, the same length as the Inhacufra–Chitobe link, also in Manica, and the Chitima–Nhabando road in Tete province.
According to the tender notice, which focusses on technical details rather than investment figures, the consultancy contracts will run for 36 months and include activities such as the review and approval of detailed designs, supervision of the physical and financial implementation of the works, verification and certification of the work carried out, monitoring of environmental and social aspects, and support for the provisional and final acceptance of the works.
The selection of consultants, a process that will run until 17 September, will follow Mozambique's public procurement rules, and the evaluation of expressions of interest will consider bidders' general and specific experience, their experience in similar projects, and the qualifications of the proposed technical staff.
