Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stocks invert opening trend, down 0.26% to 9,281.26 points

Lisbon, Aug. 19, 2026 (Lusa) - The Portuguese stock market was trading in negative territory on Wednesday, reversing its opening trend, with the main index, the PSI, falling by 0.26% to 9,281.26 points.

Around an hour and a half after the market opened, four listed companies were up, 11 were down, whilst Sonae remained at €2.02.

The shares showing the greatest gains were led by Galp, which rose 0.88% to €21.28, followed by Ibersol (-0.71% to €9.77) and Semapa (-0.50% to €20.10).

Also in the red were Teixeira Duarte and EDP, both down 0.41% (to €0.49 and €4.64 respectively), CTT (-0.39% to €6.30), Altri (-0.32% to €4.72) and Corticeira Amorim (-0.30% to €6.74).

BCP, Mota-Engil and NOS showed smaller declines, falling by 0.14%, 0.13% and 0.12% respectively, to €1.10, €4.49 and €4.86.

Conversely, Jerónimo Martins was the listed company with the strongest gains, rising 0.35% to €17.14. The retailer was followed by EDP Renewables, which rose 0.15% to €13.59, and REN, up 0.14% to €3.53.

Navigator rose by 0.06% to €3.21.

The main European stock markets remain directionless today, whilst there have been no further developments regarding the conflict in Iran, and Brent crude was trading above $91.30.

The price of a barrel of Brent crude for October delivery rose by 0.34% to $91.32, after US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that there are no ongoing talks with Iran, nor are any scheduled.

On Tuesday, the United Arab Emirates also announced the suspension of all trade relations after detecting the launch of two Iranian ballistic missiles towards its territory.

The euro was trading at $1.1592, whilst the price of an ounce of gold rose by 0.32% to $4,348. Bitcoin fell by 0.41% to $64,284.45 and silver fell by 0.34% to $63.14.
