At around 9.15 am in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) was up 0.57% at 9,207.62 points, with 11 companies rising, four falling and one remaining unchanged (Ibersol at €9.85).

EDP Renewables and Galp shares were followed by those of EDP, NOS and REN, which rose by 1.23% to €4.52, 0.92% to €4.82 and 0.57% to €3.52.

Sonae, Mota-Engil and Corticeira Amorim gained 0.50% to €2.02, 0.40% to €4.50 and 0.30% to €6.76 respectively.

Conversely, BCP and Jerónimo Martins fell by 0.27% to €1.09 and by 0.17% to €17.29 respectively.

The other two companies seeing their share prices fall were Altri and Teixeira Duarte, both down by 0.11% to €4.74 and €0.47 respectively.

Across Europe, the main stock markets opened mixed today, against the backdrop of a further rise in oil prices, whilst tensions between the United States and Iran flared up again.

The euro remained stable, gaining 0.05% against the dollar and trading at $1.1537 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.

European stock markets opened with slight movements in a session marked by a sharp rise in oil prices, against a backdrop of doubts as to whether an agreement between the United States and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz will finally be reached.

Against this backdrop, the price of the benchmark Brent crude oil contract in Europe rose by 1.90% to $89.39.

The rise in oil prices has reignited market concerns about inflation, a key indicator due to be released on Wednesday in the United States.

The market believes that peace negotiations between the United States and Iran have reached an impasse after Tehran imposed six conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including the payment of war reparations, the lifting of sanctions and the naval blockade, and the release of frozen Iranian funds.

In response, US President Donald Trump warned Iran that his country also demands compensation for the damage caused by the Islamic Republic.

Futures on the main US stock market indices point to a 0.13% fall for the Dow Jones and a 0.04% gain for the technology-heavy Nasdaq, after both closed lower on Monday, whilst in Asia, the trend was mixed.
