Mafra, Portugal, Aug. 7, 2026 (Lusa) - The minister for the environment clarified on Friday in Ericeira that the cyberattack on several businesses belonging to the Águas de Portugal group a week ago did not affect the country's water supply.

«The attack was confined to the administrative side and did not reach any public water supply systems,» Maria da Graça Carvalho told journalists.

She confirmed that the cyberattack took place last Friday and affected several companies within the Águas de Portugal group, which contacted the Judicial Police and other bodies involved in cybersecurity.

«By the time it came to light, it had already been practically resolved – at least in the sense that the situation had been contained and only the administrative side had been affected,» the minister said.

The attack targeted the group's information systems, causing temporary disruptions to administrative processes and to channels of communication with customers and partners at some companies.
