Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Drone show over Tagus to mark 60 years of Lisbon's 25 April bridge

Lisbon, Aug. 5, 2026 (Lusa) - A 3D drone show over the River Tagus in the early hours of Thursday morning will mark the 60th anniversary of the opening of the iconic 25 April Bridge in the Portuguese capital.

Road and rail infrastructure managing company, Infraestruturas de Portugal, the bridge concessionaire, Lusoponte, and  commuter train operator, Fertagus, have joined forces «to mark this anniversary with a unique 3D drone show, projected near the bridge from the south bank of the Tagus, in the Cristo Rei area, and visible from the Docas area in Lisbon», they announced on Wednesday in a statement.

The event will be attended by the Minister for Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz, and will take place at midnight on Thursday 6 August – the day on which, in 1966, the bridge was opened, transforming travel between the two banks of the River Tagus, linking Lisbon to Almada (Setúbal region), and which has become «one of Portugal's most recognisable images worldwide».

«With around 500 drones, the display will trace a journey through time in the sky, evoking the construction, evolution and pivotal role of the 25 April Bridge in the lives of millions of Portuguese people,» they stated in the same press release.

For Infraestruturas de Portugal, Lusoponte and Fertagus, «this joint celebration represents recognition of the role that the 25 April Bridge continues to play in the country's economic, social and urban life», remaining «a strategic piece of infrastructure, but also a place of shared memory and identity».
