Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stocks marginally higher with Galp falling 1.55%

Lisbon, Aug. 3, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading slightly lower on Monday morning, with Galp falling 1.55% to €19.39.

At around 9:25 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI was down 0.08% at 9,110.06 points, with six companies falling, nine rising, and one remaining unchanged (Corticeira Amorim at €6.62).

Galp's shares were followed by those of Semapa, EDP and EDP Renováveis, which were down 0.50% to €20.00, 0.49% to €4.45 and 0.45% to €13.39 respectively.

REN and CTT fell by 0.29% to €3.44 and by 0.16% to €6.15.

Conversely, Altri, Jerónimo Martins and Mota-Engil rose by 0.84% to €4.78, by 0.81% to €17.50 and by 0.65% to €4.66.

To a lesser extent, Navigator, Ibersol and Teixeira Duarte rose by 0.67% to €3.28, 0.62% to €9.67 and 0.51% to €0.49.

Other companies posting gains were Sonae (up 0.23% to €2.05), BCP (up 0.23% to €1.07) and NOS (up 0.12% to €4.84).

In Europe, the main stock exchanges opened today's first session of August on a positive note, buoyed by easing tensions between Washington and Tehran, which could resume peace talks today, whilst the price of Brent crude fell by around 7%.

The euro was stable, down 0.02% against the dollar and trading at $1.1525 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.

After US President Donald Trump said that negotiations with Iran would resume today and that he had called off an imminent «massive attack» on the country because he wants to reach an agreement to end the conflict, the price of the benchmark Brent crude oil contract in Europe fell by 6.88% to $83.92.

Sunday's decision by the OPEC+ alliance, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, to maintain its strategy of increasing oil supply for the sixth consecutive month—adding an additional 188,000 barrels to the market from September onwards—also contributed to the decline in oil prices, although current transportation challenges in the Middle East have limited the scale of the increase.

In New York, the Dow Jones and the Nasdaq closed up 0.53% and 1% respectively on Friday, whilst futures are up 0.51% for the former and 0.71% for the tech index.

In Asia, officials announced today that Japan and the United States would take joint action to support the yen, which had reached a near-40-year low, ahead of the first such intervention since 1998.
