Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lisbon airport border temporarily closed at incoming passengers mingle

Lisbon, July 28, 2026 (Lusa) - The PSP police force temporarily closed the border control area at Lisbon Airport on Tuesday after passengers on a flight from Brazil disembarked in the wrong area, leading to passengers from different flights mingling, the PSP said.

In a response sent to Lusa, the PSP stated that the incident involved passengers arriving from Salvador, Brazil, who were directed to a boarding gate, resulting in «the mixing of passengers from a third country, who had not undergone screening in accordance with the applicable European Union requirements, with passengers who had already been screened and were in the critical area of the restricted security zone».

Because the area in Terminal 1 required sanitisation, authorities evacuated it, and all passengers underwent screening again, including those already on board aircraft who had passed through the jet bridges connected to the affected area.

«The border remained temporarily closed until the evacuation, security checks and decontamination of the affected area had been completed; operations resumed once safety conditions had been restored,» added the PSP.
