Maputo, July 21, 2026 (Lusa) - Egypt's minister of foreign affairs highlighted the «growing dynamism» of relations with Mozambique, expressing an interest in strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation during a meeting in Cairo with his Mozambican counterpart.
A statement issued after Monday's meeting by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seen on Tuesday by Lusa, noted that Minister Badr Abdelatty «praised the growing dynamism of Egyptian-Mozambican relations in various areas, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries».
During the meeting between the foreign ministers of Egypt and Mozambique, Badr Abdelatty and Maria dos Santos Lucas, respectively, ways of strengthening bilateral relations were discussed, along with views on «a range of regional issues and matters of common interest».
The Egyptian minister also highlighted prospects for cooperation and Egypt's interest in continuing to support its «African brothers» in addressing health-related challenges, as well as in consolidating cooperation with Mozambique in the pharmaceutical industry and the transfer of specialist knowledge between medicines regulatory authorities, given that country's advanced capabilities.
«He emphasised the importance of continuing to work on strengthening economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, making the most of available opportunities and encouraging the involvement of the private sector and Egyptian companies in supporting national development plans in Mozambique,» the Egyptian ministry added.
Minister Badr Abdelatty also highlighted the importance of strengthening military and security cooperation, drawing on «Egypt's capabilities in combating terrorism» and intensifying cooperation through training programmes.
Mozambique and Egypt also discussed ways of ensuring stability, security, peace and development on the African continent, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region.
«Both sides agreed to continue strengthening coordination within bilateral and multilateral frameworks and to capitalise on the current political and development momentum in order to serve their common interests and contribute to stability and development in both countries and on the African continent as a whole,» the statement concluded.
