TIRANA, July 18 /ATA/ The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports held a public hearing on the restoration and museum redevelopment project for the National Museum of Independence in Vlora.
The project design team and the specialists overseeing the museum narrative presented the initial architectural concept, curatorial approach and visual identity for the nationally significant institution.
An open consultation was also held with institutions, experts and stakeholders, with the aim of gathering comments and recommendations that will help improve the proposed solutions for this site, one of the most important landmarks of Albania’s national heritage.
The project represents an important step towards preserving, promoting and reinterpreting the history of Independence, while further strengthening Vlora’s role as a cultural and historical tourism destination.
Discussions with cultural heritage experts, historians and stakeholder groups focused on the historical and symbolic significance of the site for Vlora and Albania as a whole, as well as on the restoration and conservation interventions required for the historic building.
Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said the project envisages a new museum concept, including a redesigned exhibition approach, improved interpretation of the museum collection, digitalisation elements, as well as a refreshed visual identity, branding and range of souvenirs..
He added that the new architectural concept includes the construction of a new multifunctional building designed to host cultural, educational and exhibition activities.
Gonxhja said the consultation process marks an important step in developing a modern museum that preserves the authenticity of the site where the Albanian state was founded and connects the history of Independence with present and future generations.
The minister added that, once the design team has incorporated the feedback and finalised the details, a second public hearing will be organised to present the final project.
