TIRANA, July 6 /ATA/ During 2025 Albania recorded 144 asylum seekers, marking an increase of 40 people compared to 2024, according to data published by INSTAT.
According to the statistics, the main countries of origin of the asylum seekers are Egypt with 39.6%, Afghanistan with 11.8%, and Palestine with 9.7%.
Asylum applications in Albania were concentrated in August, September and October, which together accounted for 63.2% of all requests in 2025. August recorded the highest number of applications.
INSTAT data show that during the same period, 495 people acquired Albanian citizenship — 306 regained it and 189 obtained it for the first time — while 173 individuals renounced their citizenship.
By country of origin, most of those who acquired Albanian citizenship came from Kosovo (56.1%), followed by Turkey (20.1%), and North Macedonia and Italy with 4.8% each.
Data also show that the 30–39 age group represents the largest share both among those gaining and those renouncing Albanian citizenship.
