APS - Algeria secures new gains in digital transformation drive

ALGIERS -The launch of the National Agricultural Information System marks a fresh milestone in Algeria’s digital transformation, as part of a comprehensive vision reflecting the country’s commitment to ensuring efficiency in the management of all sectors.

The move comes just before the national digital portal goes live as a one-stop platform for public services, a development set to take the country’s digitalization efforts to the next level.

Designed by young Algerian talent, the new system underscores just how central digitalization has become across the country’s various sectors, agriculture included, given its status as a strategic sector.

It thus represents the latest step in Algeria’s broader effort to build a digital economy ecosystem.

The agricultural information system, unveiled last Monday, is designed to deliver reliable, up-to-date data that will strengthen governance and support decision-making at both the central and local levels in this key sector, as part of the implementation of the agricultural sector’s action plan for 2026.

Set to be introduced in phases, the system covers the collection, management and security of data tied to the full range of agricultural functions and activities.

It also allows the administration to update this data from the point of collection, through processing and analysis, to its final use.

This digital system also includes a central dashboard intended for senior officials, as well as operational interfaces dedicated to the agricultural services directorates and subdivisions.

Its first version is devoted to monitoring the harvest-threshing campaign, allowing for the entry and analysis of daily data relating to the progress of the campaign, as well as the handling of problems identified in the field.

Other steps taken to modernize the sector include a digital platform for registering and monitoring sales of imported sheep for this year’s Eid al-Adha, as well as a newly launched page on the Ministry of Agriculture’s website allowing citizens to transparently check which authorizations and approvals the ministry has granted to economic operators, particularly regarding imports.

Over the past two years, Algeria has worked steadily toward a full-scale digital transformation, acting on instructions from the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as part of a strategic vision looking ahead to 2030, reflecting the State’s determination to establish transparency and efficiency in the management of all sectors.

The President of the Republic has stressed on several occasions the vital importance of digitalization, considering that its generalization "has become an unavoidable necessity" and that "the integration of all sectors into this process is no longer an option," expressing his rejection of any arguments that might be put forward to justify delays in joining this effort.
