Aveiro, Portugal, June 23, 2026 (Lusa) - The Aveiro Port Authority signed a memorandum of understanding in Salamanca, Spain, on Tuesday with the Sociedad Zona de Actividades Logísticas de Salamanca (ZALDEZA) to strengthen institutional and operational cooperation, it announced.
According to a statement from the port authority, the agreement was formalised in Salamanca by the chair of the national port authority, Teresa Cardoso, and the president of the Spanish organisation, Carlos Carbayo.
“The two organisations are committed to deepening their cooperation in the development of joint projects, joint commercial promotion, applications for European funding and rail connectivity solutions between the two countries,” according to the statement from the Port of Aveiro Authority.
The collaboration provides for the creation of channels for information sharing, joint promotional activities, applications for European funding, operational coordination and the promotion of more efficient and sustainable transport solutions.
The Spanish company recently completed construction of the Salamanca Intermodal Rail Platform, designed for container and general cargo handling, and plans to provide facilities for bulk goods handling and storage later this year.
The Port de Aveiro is currently developing the new Intermodal Terminal in the Logistics and Industrial Activities Zone, a facility scheduled for completion in 2027 that will enable the port to strengthen its range of multimodal services.
