Istat said Friday that it expects Italy's GDP to grow by 0.7% in both 2026 and 2027, after increasing by 0.5% in 2025.
In an update on the Italian economy, the national statistics agency said it expects growth to be driven by domestic demand over the two-year period of the forecast.
It said household and private sector consumer spending is expected to decelerate in 2026 with respect to last year, rising by 0.6% after climbing by 1.1% in 2025.
It said the weakening of a positive trend for wages and rising inflation will hold back consumer spending.
It added that consumer spending is expected to accelerate slightly in 2027, rising by 0.7%.
