Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes down bucking Europe trend

Lisbon, May 22, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed lower on Friday, with the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) falling 0.66% to 9,166.74 points and Corticeira Amorim losing over 5%, bucking the trend in the rest of Europe.

Of the 16 listed companies that make up the PSI, eight fell, seven rose and Sonae SGPS remained unchanged at €1.89.

Leading the falls was Corticeira Amorim, which lost 5.31% to €6.60.

Among the main fallers were also Galp, which fell by 3.07% to €19.09, and Mota-Engil, which dropped by 1.81% to €4.66.

REN (€3.58), EDP Renováveis (€14.35), Jerónimo Martins (€18.70), EDP (€4.44) and Navigator (€3.39) all fell by less than 1%.

In the opposite direction, leading the gains was Ibersol, which rose 1.73% to €11.78.

Also notable were Semapa, which rose 1.72% to €23.60, and Altri, which climbed 1.16% to €5.24.

Altri reported a loss of €7.3 million in Q1 2026 , compared with a profit of €7.6 million in the same period in 2025, as announced to the market on Thursday.

In the statement sent to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission, the group said that “the adverse weather conditions in Portugal during Q1 2026 resulted in various disruptions, which led to lower production levels and sales volumes below plan”.

Meanwhile, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell by 81.6% to €5.4 million.

Between January and March, the group’s total revenue stood at €160.2 million, down 21.3% compared with the first three months of 2025.

Teixeira Duarte (€0.42), CTT (€6.34), NOS (€5.32) and BCP (€0.96) all posted gains of less than 1% in Friday’s trading session.

Elsewhere in Europe, Frankfurt rose by 1.15%, Paris by 0.37%, London by 0.22% and Madrid by 0.06%.
