Lisbon, May 21, 2026 (Lusa) – The Lisbon stock market is trading higher on Thursday morning, with CTT leading the gains, rising 0.86% to €6.43, while Sonae is down 1.11% to €1.95.
Around 9:25 a.m. in Lisbon, the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) maintained its opening trend, rising 0.25% to 9,271.57 points. Ten companies rose, four fell, and two remained unchanged, with Altri at €5.16 and Ibersol at €11.64.
Following CTT, shares in BCP, Teixeira Duarte, and Navigator appreciated 0.71% to €0.96, 0.59% to €0.43, and 0.35% to €3.40, respectively.
Jerónimo Martins, Corticeira Amorim, and EDP Renováveis recorded more moderate gains, rising 0.32% to €19.00, 0.29% to €6.98, and 0.28% to €14.23.
Semapa, NOS, and Galp climbed, increasing 0.22% to €23.00, 0.19% to €5.41, and 0.10% to €19.77.
Conversely, besides Sonae, Mota-Engil dropped 0.58% to €4.83, REN declined 0.28% to €3.58, and EDP fell 0.18% to €4.43.
Major European stock markets opened lower on Thursday due to uncertainty surrounding the end of the war in Iran. The drop followed a sharp decline in oil prices on Wednesday and statements from US President Donald Trump predicting that prices would plummet. Meanwhile, as negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain stalled, Brent Crude, the European benchmark for July delivery, fell 1.44% to US$106.54.
The euro also traded down, declining 0.21% to US$1.1598 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market.
President Trump said that he expects to receive responses regarding the negotiations with Iran, adding that they must be correct to end the war that began on 28 February.
Addressing the negative impact of the war on the US economy, Trump said that oil prices would plunge.
Expectations of progress in the peace talks caused Brent Crude to fall more than 5% at Wednesday's close, reaching US$105, while WTI Crude dropped 5.7% to US$98.26 a barrel.
Meanwhile in Lisbon, Dow Jones and Nasdaq futures pointed to declines of 0.18% and 0.51% respectively.
US semiconductor manufacturer Nvidia reported its first-quarter results after Wednesday's session closed, posting a net profit of US$58.321 billion, up 210% from the same period last year.
