Lisbon, May 19, 2026 (Lusa) - Waiting times at mainland Portuguese airports for passengers travelling from outside the Schengen Area remained under an hour until late Tuesday morning, said the Public Security Police (PSP), who also confirmed a technical glitch that had no operational impact.
In a statement, the police confirmed that “a technical fault occurred with computer equipment, which was resolved immediately and had no impact thanks to the contingency plans in place, with border controls continuing to be carried out in strict compliance with security rules and border control standards”.
The clarification follows social media posts alleging delays of several hours, which the police denied while expressing regret over misinformation regarding waiting times at air border controls, specifically at Lisbon airport, where the recorded waiting time was 32 minutes for departures and 36 minutes for arrivals.
In Faro, passengers wait an average of 45 minutes in the departures area and 40 minutes in the arrivals area, whilst in Porto, the figures are 10 minutes in the departures area and 30 minutes in the arrivals area.
The police reiterated its regret over the spread of misinformation and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accuracy in public communications, saying that the circulation of unverified information causes unjustified alarm, undermines routine border operations and the overall efficiency of airport management.
