Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes with benchmark 1% higher, Mota-Engil leading

Lisbon, May 18, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market closed in positive territory on Monday, with the PSI (Portugal Stock Index) rising 1.21% to 9,142.55 points, on a day when Mota-Engil, EDP and Galp Energia rose over 2%.

Of the 16 listed companies that comprise the national benchmark index, only four closed the session in negative territory with the remaining 12 in the green.

Mota-Engil led the PSI gains, rising 2.66% to €4.94, ahead of two listed companies linked to the energy sector.

EDP rose 2.43% to €4.38, while Galp Energia closed at €20.18.

Other PSI benchmark heavyweights also gained value, including Jerónimo Martins, which rose 1.90% to €18.76, and EDP Renováveis, which increased 1.77% to €13.83.

Bucking the trend, Semapa led the losses, falling 1.09% to €22.75 after presenting its Q1 results on Friday.

Semapa registered profits of €513.3 million during the period, up from the €39.6 million it recorded in the same period of 2025.

Among the losses, BCP saw its shares slip 0.34% to €0.93 per share.

Across the other main European bourses, Germany's DAX rose 1.49%, the UK's FTSE 100 added 1.26%, Spain's IBEX-35 climbed 0.75% and France's CAC-40 gained 0.44%.
