NNA - The Environment Ministry on Thursday launched an environmental initiative in Sidon aimed at improving living conditions in displacement centres, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, with funding from the European Union and implementation by local partner associations.
The first phase includes distributing 500 waste containers to more than 25 shelters hosting around 10,000 displaced people in Sidon and nearby areas, with the goal of improving hygiene and waste management and creating healthier living conditions.
The initiative also includes awareness campaigns, particularly for children, to promote waste sorting and reduction, in coordination with the Sidon municipality.
Environment Minister Tamara Elzein said the project represents an integrated environmental management model combining awareness, sorting and proper waste handling, adding that the initiative would later expand to Baalbek, Tripoli and potentially Beirut.
