Lusa - Business News - Cabo Verde: Import prices rise, reversing downward trend

Praia, May 5, 2026 (Lusa) – Cabo Verde’s import prices rose 0.3% between February and March due to more expensive fuel and machinery, breaking a downward trend from previous months, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Tuesday.

The country depends on imports, and the increase comes as the world begins to feel the inflationary shock from the Middle East war.

However, the institute said consumer and intermediate goods (products used in production processes) continued to record price falls in March.

In addition, “compared with March 2025, prices of imported products fell by 10.4%,” the institute reported.

The External Trade Price Index (ICE), an indicator measuring trade prices between Cabo Verde and the rest of the world, provided the data.
