Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market down as NOS drops 1.07% while Galp gains 0.99%

Lisbon, April 29, 2026 (Lusa) – The Lisbon stock market traded lower on Wednesday, with NOS falling 1.07% to €5.53 and Galp rising 0.99% to €19.84.

Around 09:45 a.m in Lisbon, the PSI (Portuguese Stock Index) reversed its opening trend, dropping 0.36% to 9,232.07 points. Ten companies saw their share prices fall, while six recorded gains.

Following NOS, shares in REN, Ibersol, and EDP Renováveis fell 0.93% to €3.74, 0.68% to €11.70, and 0.56% to €14.08, respectively. CTT (-0.54% to €6.41), BCP (-0.51% to €0.89), and EDP (-0.50% to €4.60) traded in the red. Teixeira Duarte, Jerónimo Martins, and Sonae saw more moderate drops of 0.47% to €0.43, 0.39% to €20.30, and 0.10% to €1.92.

In contrast, after Galp's gains, Mota-Engil, Semapa, and Corticeira Amorim appreciated by 0.51% to €4.70, 0.44% to €22.80, and 0.31% to €6.40, respectively. Navigator (0.24% to €3.32) and Altri (0.20% to €4.96) gained.

Major European stock markets opened lower on Wednesday, as investors focused on the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) interest rate decision, rising oil prices linked to Iran, and the ongoing publication of first-quarter results. On the Frankfurt currency market, the euro fell 0.05% to $1.1706.

Markets remain attentive to Iran after US President Donald Trump ordered advisors to prepare for a prolonged blockade, according to The Wall Street Journal. The report notes other options, such as resuming bombings or withdrawing from the conflict.

Following this development, Brent crude, the European benchmark, rose 0.88% to $112.24 per barrel. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for June delivery, the US benchmark, gained 0.97% to reach $100.89.

The market awaits the Fed's interest rate decision, which will likely keep rates in the 3.50% to 3.75% range after the Bank of Japan held its key rates. The European Central Bank and the Bank of England are expected to follow suit on Thursday.

US index futures gained, with the Dow Jones up 0.09% and the Nasdaq rising 0.31%. Wall Street will monitor the first-quarter results of four of the "Magnificent Seven", Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, and Meta, followed by Apple on Thursday.
