Lusa - Business News - Angola: Trains resume passenger service to Luanda international airport

Luanda, April 27, 2026 (Lusa) - Regular passenger trains between Luanda Bungo, the main railway station in the Angolan capital, and the Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport resumed service on Monday, 27 April, Luanda Railway (CFL, the state-owned rail operator) announced. The inter-station service, with departures from Bungo and the airport, operates seven days a week. Trains depart Bungo station at 6:00 a.m. and the airport station at 7:30 a.m..

Afternoon and evening departures leave Bungo at 2:00 p.m. and the airport at 6:10 p.m.

The resumption follows a nearly year-long suspension that CFL announced in June 2025 for “technical and operational reasons” to allow maintenance on the airport branch line using heavy equipment. While the initial deadline was September 2025, the interruption lasted about 10 months.

In October 2025, CFL spokesperson Augusto Osorio told Lusa the service would only resume in 2026.

He said the work aimed to ensure “maximum safety” for people crossing the tracks and train users, expecting smoother rail traffic after completion.
